" My surgeon was impressed with my rehabilitation...
I was three months ahead of where he expected me to be. "
- Ms Pamela M -
On your first consultation I will carry out an assessment, diagnose and discuss a plan of action and give you your first treatment session as well as some home exercises.
The first session will last an hour, with 40 minutes allocated to the assessment and discussion and 20 minutes for the first treatment and exercises.
The follow up physiotherapy sessions are a series of treatments that can last between 30 and 45 minutes depending on requirements.
The total number of treatments varies from one patient to another and is only provided as a guideline. I will advise you on how many sessions I think will be needed to reach our goal. You are under no obligation to complete all the sessions if deemed unnecessary.
Each session is booked in advance as individual appointments.
I combine cutting-edge technology, evidence-based modern techniques and ancient treatment methods to achieve the best possible results with my patients.
These treatments can be used either to prevent the incidence of musculoskeletal disorders or to prevent the deterioration of improved chronic conditions.
The length of the session is entirely up to the patient and usually depends on the amount of work required. Sessions can range from 45 minutes to an hour and above, and are priced accordingly.
For a list of the conditions that I treat and the techniques I use, please refer to the home page.
These Health Programmes are for people who don't want their health to deteriorate. They can also greatly assist even people who are suffering from acute or chronic conditions and want to implement a more holistic and integrated approach to return to good health. The amount of sessions required to complete any Health Programme can be discussed after the first session.
The Health Programmes are divided into two different sections: prevention and maintenance. These can be applied to the whole body or to a specific parf of the body.
In terms of prevention, I will help you understand how your body works and give you a practical training on how to best utilise and preserve it so you can prevent and avoid most of the commonly known musculoskeletal conditions.
In terms of maintenance, I will apply my years of knowledge and experience to help you restore balance and optimal health to your body.
To get the best results, prevention and maintenance should be applied together.
The Musculoskeletal Programme can be applied to a specific part of the body or to the entire body. In this programme I will look at your musculoskeletal structure (bones, muscles, tendons, joints, ligaments, nerves, blood vessels).
Prevention: I will instruct you in the best possible way to load and move your structure to avoid the accumulation of repetitive strains and prevent wear and tear. I will also give you a programme of self-maintenance exercises that will assist you in restoring flexibility, elasticity, alignment and strength.
Maintenance: I will examine your musculoskeletal structure and apply various hands-on treatment techniques to bring you back to optimal health and function, and prevent the manifestation of a condition.
The Energy Programme is for people who suffer from low energy levels, chronic fatigue, stress and sleep disturbances.
Prevention: I will give you a structure to understand energy fluctuation in your body and how to start climbing back to the top of your energy ladder.
I will look at various factors like sleep, nutrition, hydration, breathing, physical exercise, activity versus rest etc... and will implement a plan of action to adjust and correct these factors to facilitate an energy increase. You will be provided with a simple yet unique system to monitor your improvements.
Maintenance: I will use various hands-on techniques like acupuncture, acupressure, viscero-fascial release, etc... and instruct you in Qi-gong exercises (energy exercises) and conventional exercises to improve your energy levels and boost your immune system.
Be prepared to make life style adjustments to get the best out of this programme.
The Sports Specific Programme is for people who are doing a specific sport or range of sports and want to prevent injuries and optimise performance.
Prevention: I will look at all the various movements and actions involved in your sport and how you perform them. I will then apply cutting-edge biomechanics to adjust and modify them to eliminate repetitive strain injuries and enhance performance.
You will be given a self-maintenance exercise regime specific to your sport that needs to be done before and after each training session to optimally prepare your muscles, tendons and joints for the task ahead and facilitate a proper recovery after the task is completed. I will also educate you about what you need to know in terms of anatomy so you can train more scientifically. I can also educate you when required on how to effectively train around an existing injury so you can maintain your fitness without aggravating the injury.
Maintenance: any serious athlete needs maintenance work to maintain pick performance, recover quick and avoid injuries. What is also true is that anybody who exercises regularly will need maintenance work from time to time for the same reasons. I will apply various hands-on techniques to release tension, correct imbalances and restore joint alignment, elasticity and strength.
The maintenance work can be general or to correct strains specific to your sport.
As an Operational Officer with 28 years of service, I have managed to collect a more than average number of injuries on duty. One of those injuries was kindly given to me when I arrested a wife beater in April 1998, where I received what has become a protracted lower back injury. I won't bore any of you with details but as a result of this injury I have seen truck-fulls of Osteopaths, Chiropractors and Physiotherapists. Some of whom seek nothing more than to make a few good joint cracking noises and take the money.
Since March of this year I have been seing Izzel Barbosa. I cannot say enough good things about this man. How about considerate, able, effective, professional, patient and A1 fantastic to name just a few attributes. People like this are hard to find...
Mr Adrian N
I have been under the care of Izzel for approx 8 weeks being treated for a shoulder injury sustained on duty early this year. I was initially seen by National Health care practitioners who incorrectly diagnosed my injury. This allowed me to continue on exacerbating the injury until I could no longer cope with the pain and discomfort.
Following referral by JT, I visited Izzel who very quickly and correctly identified my injury. He outlined a course of treatment and fully explained everything that was to happen. Izzel's manner, professionalism, knowledge and people skills made me feel comfortable, hopeful and inspired me with confidence.
As each session progressed, I felt both physically and mentally better and I firmly believe that this has allowed me to continue working without taking any time off sick with the injury. Izzel used a combination of therapies and was consistent with the level of service throughout. I had originally been given a prognosis of up to 6 months, based on the pain and lack of mobility that I presented with. However, I have now been signed back to full duties and I have no pain at all with my strength improving almost daily. My quality of life is improving, with sleep being less disturbed.
I have had many sporting injuries in the past, seen many different therapists and had a lot of lengthy recovery periods. I was worried that I would go through a repeat of it all again but I could not have been any further from the truth.
Mr Will H
I would like to commend to you the excellent work of Izzel Barbosa [...]
In August 2000 I received whiplash injuries in a car accident. I had received some treatment in the way of painkillers from my GP in addition to three visits to an NHS Physiotherapist. Not having had any physiotherapy before I did not know then what I was or was not getting. I was left with pain and discomfort that would not go away.
Subsequently, I was advised by Mr B A&E Consultant at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital to seek help from your department and as a result started a course of treatments with Izzel. It very quickly became apparent that Izzel knew his business very well and I am glad to say that having finished the treatment I am very close to my pre accident level of mobility and comfort.
It is obvious to me that without the quality of his treatment I would not have made such a good recovery. It goes without saying that getting rid of the pain allows me to enjoy life and be efficient at work.
