Patients' Feedback - Page 2 out of 4
I have had three sessions with Izzel and I am now well on the road to recovery. The purpose of this note was not, however, to provide a medical bulletin. It was to provide feedback on Izzel - he was absolutely great - charming, professional and immensely reassuring.
From a clinical perspective he took a great deal of time to explain the various complexities of hand movements which greatly assisted my understanding of what was causing the problem in the first place and how to mend and prevent for the future.
Mr Jon Y
I have been under the care of Izzel for approx 8 weeks being treated for a shoulder injury sustained on duty early this year. I was initially seen by National Health care practitioners who incorrectly diagnosed my injury. This allowed me to continue on exacerbating the injury until I could no longer cope with the pain and discomfort.
Following referral by JT, I visited Izzel who very quickly and correctly identified my injury. He outlined a course of treatment and fully explained everything that was to happen. Izzel's manner, professionalism, knowledge and people skills made me feel comfortable, hopeful and inspired me with confidence.
As each session progressed, I felt both physically and mentally better and I firmly believe that this has allowed me to continue working without taking any time off sick with the injury. Izzel used a combination of therapies and was consistent with the level of service throughout. I had originally been given a prognosis of up to 6 months, based on the pain and lack of mobility that I presented with. However, I have now been signed back to full duties and I have no pain at all with my strength improving almost daily. My quality of life is improving, with sleep being less disturbed.
I have had many sporting injuries in the past, seen many different therapists and had a lot of lengthy recovery periods. I was worried that I would go through a repeat of it all again but I could not have been any further from the truth.

I just wanted to let you know how well my foot is and that I'm back doing long, long walks without any problems. Thank you for all the work you did on my foot and all the advice you gave me, plus tips on stretching the ligaments.
Ms Anne B
Just a quick line to let you know I passed all my riding assessments and yesterday I passed out as a mounted branch officer! I wanted to thank you for all your help in getting my lower back better in time to complete the course. Much appreciated!
Mr Danny L
Just to let you know that my knee showed no adverse reaction to the test you conducted on it last Friday which has now allowed me to return to full duties. I would like to thank you for your help in assisting me to make a full recovery and I now look forward to resuming normal sporting activities. We are very lucky to have your services. Many thanks.
Mr John MG
I have been a patient of Izzel's for a while as last February I slipped two discs in my lower back and one affected my leg causing sciatica as well. During the first part of last year I was virtually immobile and received treatment from two physiotherapists under the hospital.
I was to be assessed in January of this year by my doctor to be sent to a back specialist but last October my doctor was ready to send me to a specialist with view to surgery, however, Sarah from OH encouraged me to see Izzel. I spoke to my doctor about this as I was so afraid of doing anything that might make my back and leg worse.
My doctor said I should see Izzel as the surgery I would have is something he would not wish for himself and that I had nothing to lose and should grasp the opportunity so that is what I did and I truly believe that Izzel has saved me from having major back surgery.
I am so grateful to Izzel for all the hard work and patience he has shown and given me and due to his expertise and physio skill he has helped me on the road to recovery.
Please can this be noted as I am so thankful to Izzel for helping me to get better.

On the 4th December 2000 whilst on duty I fell heavily and broke my right ankle and suffered severe ligament and muscle damage to my leg. As a result of this I was left in a non-weight bearing plaster for five weeks and heavy strapping for a further three weeks.
I was told before the strapping came off that I would need physiotherapy on the injury. I made contact with LL the Occupational Health Practice Nurse and was put in contact with Izzel Barbosa.
I am writing to you to bring to your attention the excellent way in which I have been treated. Although I am still receiving treatment and am on light duties, I feel without his help I would be in a far worse physical condition without the intensive treatment that I have had to this date.
Mr Kieron JP
I am a Police Constable who is just about to retire after 30 years service. The positive aspect is that I am pleased I have successfully completed my service. The negative aspect is that, in more recent years, my physical health declined with musculoskeletal problems.
I am writing to thank Mr Izzel Barbosa for his invaluable help in enabling me to overcome and manage the damage caused by these problems. Without his intervention my last three years in the police service would have been physically difficult and painful to endure.
I found that all aspects of Mr Barbosa's work were of a high professional standard. Mr Barbosa has set the benchmark to an impressive level of a competent physiotherapist and for that I am grateful.
I wish Mr Barbosa every success in his future and would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his valuable support and assistance whilst I was in his care.

Four months ago I had severe pain in my lower abdomen and also on my right inside hip. I had seen a number of doctors and several physios. They all provided a different diagnosis and different treatments.
At one stage I was unable to even kick a ball in the garden with my son without severe pain and couldn't run even a few feet without pain.
I saw you, and you immediately understood the problem and started a structured acupuncture into my lower abdomen. Three weeks later I am able to run and have nearly recovered from what was without doubt my most frustrating sporting injury. Many thanks.
Mr Nick H
Dear Izzel, thank you for seeing the Commissioner today at such short notice. He was very grateful to you. You clearly impressed him with your care and attention.
Ms Debbie G
Thanks Izzel for your help over the past few months. Not sure where I would be now if I hadn't been able to use your expertise. We are very lucky to have you.
Ms Suzanne J
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to Izzel for his efforts over the past eight months in treating my tennis elbow. Since December 2006, I had been experiencing the most horrible pain in my left elbow. I sought advice from many physiotherapists and so called Sports Injury Consultants. After some treatments they all advised me that they were unable to help heal my injury and that an operation was potentially the only way forward, although I was advised that even this option may not have been successful.
Ms T, very fortunately for me, referred me to Izzel. From my first meeting with him, in the summer of 2007, he has treated my injury in a meticulous and methodical manner, and has refused to be beaten by it or take the easy option of saying that there was nothing else he could do. He has not only treated the elbow but the entire area radiating from it, which has resulted in a 100 per cent improvement.
Izzel in my case clearly went above and beyond his role, and treated me with professionalism, determination and expertise. I have not doubt that were it not for his patience and dogged determination, I would still be suffering and now not fulfilling full operational duty. I would be grateful if you could ensure that Izzel is recognised for his work and my extreme thanks are passed on to him.
